If you’re running your fitness blog and get a good amount of comments but your comments don’t seem to fall in the correct order, than this post is for you.

What exactly do I mean? Lets say you write an excellent post about hip mobility tips and you get 3 comments.

As a good fitness blogger you like to respond to your readers comments, so you hit reply from the Wordpress dashboard.

You respond to each comment, so now there is a total of six comments.  One problem, your reader comments are the first three, and yours are all posted as the next three.

What can you do to put your comments (author comments) in the correct order?  What if another reader hits reply to a different reader, or to your response?  How can we get them in the correct order?

Comment Contest AprilAttention Personal Trainers/Bootcamp Instructors,

Last month we had the first ever Easy Fitness Websites commenting contest.  Ronald Markin won and got his very own ebook graphic to use for his website.

Now we are heading into the month of April and commenting contest number 2.  This time the prize is $50 in your pocket.

You will notice the section in the sidebar labeled – Top Commentator Count.  This will show users with the most comments on this site.  The person with the most comments (at least 8) by April 23rd will receive $50 cash money.

So what do you need to do? Simply comment on posts and if you could just hit the Digg icon below each post.  But only your comment is what will determine the winner.

**Be sure to use the same name each time you comment, because the system will recognize you by name only.  You can easily check who’s in the lead at any time by checking the site and that section in the sidebar.

It would also be nice if you went to Gravatar and set up an account with a photo.  Most every blog uses Gravatar for the comment images, and it just makes things more personal.

There are also two other ways you benefit.

Click For The Info

Everyone these days has a free report to give in exchange for an email address.  Any site you’ve been on, you’ve undoubtedly seen it.  Even on this site if you click the report over in the sidebar, you will get a free report for your email.

Fitness Website Opt in Reports

The thing you need to do however is give something of real value to your reader.  Usually its the Top 10 Fat Loss Secrets or 21 Metabolism Maximizers report, which is absolutely fine.

But what if you wanted to separate yourself from the pack?  What if you wanted to offer video content for your fitness list subscribers.  You know you can’t use Youtube, because its not private.

I’ve opted in to lists before where it says get this private video, only to be a Youtube video.  This is misinformation as I could have just went to Youtube and got the video without offering my email address.

This didn’t leave a good taste in my mouth, and I unsubscribed.  However this video could have easily been uploaded to another video site with great privacy options.  Or both but your list gets the private version just so it looks better.

The Answer Lies Within

We discussed the more tag and how to utilize it on your fitness blog for enticing more comments and page views.  Tease the reader and then encourage them to click your post so that the comments section will be on screen after they finish reading.

If your whole post is on the homepage, there is no “ease” to comment.  But we’ve already talked about that.  It was also shown how you can change the text for the more tag by going into your Wordpress fitness blog’s post editor in HTML view.

Wordpress for Fitness Blogs

We’ve already talked about that.  I also briefly explained why in my opinion every fitness blogger should consider getting the Thesis theme from DIY Themes.

Now lets take a look at how Thesis can make things easier for you and your fitness blogging experience.

Fitness Website RSS IconBy now I’m sure you’ve seen a gazillion times the little RSS reader icon (image on left) on blogs and websites. Do you know what that little icon does for one of the visitors to your fitness blog?  Are you properly optimizing your RSS feed?

Let’s start with what in the world RSS is?  And also what it does?

The definition from Wikipedia says,RSS (most commonly expanded as “Really Simple Syndication”) is a family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated works—such as blog entries, news headlines, audio, and video—in a standardized format.  An RSS document (which is called a “feed”, “web feed”, or “channel”) includes full or summarized text, plus metadata such as publishing dates and authorship.

Web feeds benefit publishers by letting them syndicate content automatically. They benefit readers who want to subscribe to timely updates from favored websites or to aggregate feeds from many sites into one place.

RSS provides your website visitor a quick way to read your newest information without actually visiting your site. Yes I said without visiting your site.  “Well I want them to come to my site,” you say.  “True,” I respond “but a reader via RSS feed is better than no reader at all.”

There are numerous “feed” readers that an internet user can use to read your newest updates.  Personally I use Google Reader to manage feeds of sites I want to read regularly.  This way I can leave comments on any new posts.

So lets talk customizing and enhancing your fitness website feed for your readers.
